18″X18″ Acrylic resin and acrylic paint on a wooden panel.
This painting is one of layered resin series. As a furniture maker I was Very familiar with pour on finishes for table tops and bar tops, as an artist I was fascinated by the possibilities. Working with the resin allows for a unique dimension in paintings. Each layer poured is like 40~50 coats of varnish, this gives a wonderful deep wet look on its own. But thats not where it got fun for me. I found if I paint over the layer of resin it appears as though the new layer is in the foreground and floats over the back painting, adding new layers of paint and resin allows for a feeling of great depth. (pictures just can’t capture the effect) I approached this piece as a growing idea… I started with a simple idea and added more complexity as I added layers. I wanted to convoy a strong message in an appealing way. This particular painting is nine layers deep, each layer depicts a moment in time. Every layer has one unifying part, the Dog wood blossom as it represents life purity and innocence.
